Excerpts from
“A Real Art Lesson”
And Bonus material of a free art lesson !
Classical Realism was perfected with the Flemish style of oil painting during the renaissance era. Within this e-book, you will find the lost secrets to this wonderful method of oil painting that will leave you simply amazed at the results you will achieve.
I will cover all aspects of the still life painting from selecting your paint subject, set-up, lighting, and composition. I will show you how to prepare the canvas, step by step: (see below)
Here is an example of our still life setup.
"The strokes must be smooth and confident. Pull the knife completely across in one movement if possible. This leaves only one edge to clear. (Either with subsequent knife strokes of after drying with the razor."
We will discuss the pencil drawing and how to transfer it to the canvas. Then why we do the ink drawing over this.
You will learn the full seven layer technique of painting, from the imprimatura to the finishing layers.
Here is the imprimatura (1st) umber coat of paint being applied.
“Here is an example of a correcting brush being used to lift paint off of the canvas. The brush had been dipped in turps and dried slightly. It then soaks up the paint I wanted removed. Something a water colorist would do.”
Next we have the completed umber under layer.
The mixing of Black, Grays, and color mixtures are included in detail.
We then cover the application of the dead (or gray) layer.
Then onto the color mixtures, correcting and blending.
With a great amount of full closeup pictures
Even finer details are discussed and shown in the final layers.
"See the yellow highlights from the fireplace in the lower right of each grape. This now puts the "puzaaaazzzz!" factor into the painting"
And in addition to this, you will see two paintings demonstrated, with an additional bonus chapter that talks about things for the very beginning artist. About 20% of the photos have areas specifically highlighted and pointed out for an even clearer understanding of the paint manipulation.
Now if you've got this far, and your still with me, here is your reward in the form of a free art lesson:
Have you wondered why, in the classical still life paintings of flowers and fruit, they seem so fresh in appearance. One reason of course is the use of the 7 layer technique, which allows the paint to age and fade without damage to the original intent of the artist. Your brights remain bright and your colors don't become muddy. The other is what I call the use of "bling". We are talking about the dew drops and water drops you see through out the piece. It is like a fine automobile with just the touch of chrome in the right places. Or the very fine china that has that gold or silver trim. In a painting, the little sparkles of light produced by the water drops add super focus to the area applied and naturally brings the viewers eye to that direction. I will show you in a few simple steps how to create these little jewels of accoutrements that you place throughout your painting to add "bling" where it's needed, your focal points!
