A little talk with Delmus and his art.

"Art has always been a focus within my life.  It has been a great passion that has never faded."  Delmus explains further, "in the words of this country's greatest sculptor, Frederick Hart, ...art has a moral responsibility, that it must pursue something higher than itself.  Art must be a part of life.  It must exist in the domain of every person.  It must be an enriching, enabling and vital partner in the public pursuit of civilization.  It should be a majestic presence in everyday life just as it was in the past."

Within Delmus's flowers, there is a softness, warmth and glow that exude a peace and serenity much needed in our hectic lifestyles of today. "The joy of life is one of the things I like to depict in my work.  Life is so very fragile, like the flower blossom, it is short lived and beautiful."  His still life's are simply a relaxing pleasure of balance and beauty. A melody of shades, colors, and design. Upon closer inspection there are plenty of details, shadow play and dramatic lighting effects to keep the viewer's interest. Delmus uses a 17th Century Flemish Master technique as taught by Alexei Antonov, a Classical Russian Master. It is this optical mixture of seven layers that gives Delmus's paintings a particular freshness.

After 30 years in the industrial world using his creative problem solving skills to repair production equipment and later as a manager for the maintenance department, Delmus changed careers to pursue his dream of creating beautiful pieces of art.  "Just like a now famous commercial, I really wanted to chase a dream before I was to tired to do it.  Producing art is something I've done all my life.  Having entered the Air Force right after High School, going to art school was set aside.  Life took me down a road that was wonderful, it provided for my family for a very long time.  I knew however, that my path would always lead me back to using my talent."  With the support of his wife and their seven children, he began the process of building his art career sometime back.  "I took a few weeks off one summer and my boys helped me build a small studio.  They learned some excellent carpentry skills (which was later put to good use in Florida repairing hurrican damaged roofing of victims homes) and I found a great place to produce my work. I'm pretty fortunate in that I sell most of my originals.  This is the reason for the new website.  To be able to bring my work to a wider audience through Giclee's."

This website features Giclee Prints of Delmus's artwork.

About the product:

The Definition : Giclee (zhee-klay) - The French word "giclée" is a feminine noun that means a spray or a spurt of liquid. The word may have been derived from the French verb "gicler" meaning "to squirt".

The Term : The term "giclee print" connotes an elevation in printmaking technology. Images are generated from high resolution digital scans and printed with archival quality inks onto various substrates including canvas, fine art, and photo-base paper. The giclee printing process provides better color accuracy than other means of reproduction.

The Process : Giclee prints are created typically using professional 8-Color to 12-Color ink-jet printers. Among the manufacturers of these printers are vanguards such as Epson, MacDermid Colorspan, & Hewlett-Packard. These modern technology printers are capable of producing incredibly detailed prints for both the fine art and photographic markets. Giclee prints are sometimes mistakenly referred to as Iris prints, which are 4-Color ink-jet prints from a printer pioneered in the late 1970s by Iris Graphics.

The Quality : The quality of the giclee print rivals traditional silver-halide and gelatin printing processes and is commonly found in museums, art galleries, and photographic galleries.
